This is because you judge your own playing by how good you sound, and all it takes is one string to be out of pitch for you to not sound as good as you would have if the string had been in pitch.

But how can you make sure your guitar is in tune? With an inexpensive pitch pipe. I got one myself too, I payed 6 bucks for it. Furthermore, you can tune from string to string, use an electric guitar tuner, or maybe tune from a piano or another guitar.

3. What kind of plectrum do you want to use? Do you want to use one at all? This is perhaps THE most overlooked piece of equipment when it comes to playing acoustic guitars; you don`t have to use one, it is possible to just use your fingers, but in any case you should a least learn how to use it. The reason for this is because you will have the possibility to change the sound of you guitar; a wery thin pick will give a “soft” sound, while a thick one will, you guessed it, give a “harder” sound.
